As businesses and technologies change, the security solutions that service them should evolve in parallel so that they are as sophisticated as the assets that they serve to protect. Because every industry and business is different so too are the factors that determine the most compatible security and video surveillance packages. Consult the FAQs below so that you are in a better position to spend the right amount of money on the right security solutions for your business.

What is the size of the area you need to protect?

The cameras and networks that you use will be governed by the size of the premises that needs to be protected.  Individual wide-angle or PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras provide remote directional and zoom control. These are both sufficient for larger rooms because even the widest angles won’t compromise on the visual quality.

For smaller premises, the more cost-effective static cameras will suffice.

Will you need audio in conjunction with video surveillance?

When audio features are integrated into video surveillance packages, security personnel are able to hear possible perpetrators which is a great proactive tactic to employ. In addition, audio features allow the client or monitoring agent to communicate with a perpetrator. Audio is easily integrated with visual management systems and has the additional benefit of providing an extra surveillance method which can trigger different alarms.

What are the lighting conditions?

Areas inside and outside will present different lighting conditions and challenges, not to mention the changing of the seasons. There are technologies available that ensure that the footage provided is usable to an end user, regardless of the prevalent lighting conditions.  Light filtering technologies (especially artificial illuminators and IR filters) serve to enhance the quality of the visual day or night, sun or shine.

Will your cameras act as visual deterrents?

Cameras can either act as visual deterrents or they can provide more subtle security service. Box cameras are usually the largest and most obvious, these types of cameras are in place to make subjects aware that they are being monitored. Dome cameras, on the other hand, are more discreet because of how small they are. PTZ cameras are useful if you’d like to keep tabs on a particular moving subject.

Are high-res technologies such as HD CCTV and Hikvision important to your business?

If you need to monitor larger areas or would like to identify people, vehicles or product, high-definition cameras will be required to provide a useful visual.

Smaller areas typically don’t necessarily need high-res surveillance. It isn’t simply the case that HD technology will be the best for your business, but consider its benefits if your premises is large and difficult to monitor.
